Dr. Honjong  Baik

Hojong Baik, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering joined Missouri S&T in August of 2007. A native of Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Baik received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Yonsei University and M.S. form Seoul National University in Seoul. He worked at Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) for five years before pursuing his Ph.D. at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. and State University (Virginia Tech). Dr. Baik remained at Virginia Tech after graduation , fist as a research scientist and later as a research assistant professor. White he was at Virginia Tech, Dr. Baik received two NASA awards, the Turning Goals into Reality Award in 2005 and the Group Achievement Award in 2006.

Dr. Baik specializes in transportation planning and engineering. His research interests include the application of operations research and simulation techniques to transportation problems with the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).He is currently teaching an undergraduate course and enjoys interacting with the students, faculty and staff.

According to Dr. Baik the "quality of the students and qualifications of the faculty" are what drew him to Missouri S&T. He also commented that after living in metropolitan areas for most of his life, he looks forward to a more peaceful life in Rolla, and hopes to have more chances to enjoy outdoor activities. Dr. Baik and his wife Sunghye Park have a daughter Julia, who is a high school senior.
